The Writer Behind the Pages

I’ve always had stories tucked inside me, little worlds, characters, and hidden moments that waited their turn. For years, I kept them in the quiet corners of my mind until one day I opened a composition notebook and let them pour out. My nephew helped me build this website to showcase those stories, and so here we are.

My mornings begin with the scent of freshly-ground beans and a steaming cup of good coffee. With each sip, I settle into my favorite writing nook: a sun-washed room surrounded by three patio doors, two smaller end-windows, and a warm gas fireplace at one side. Eclectic furnishings, forest views, the hush of early light, it all feeds the stories I love to tell.

Romantic fantasy fiction is my heart’s home. Inspiration comes from a snippet of song lyrics, a passing phrase someone uttered, or a line I read late at night. I hope that when you turn the last page of one of my books, you’ll feel that sweet ache of having said goodbye … and the thrilling promise of the next adventure.

I admit: I can’t write without some instrumental music in the background, and yes, sometimes I literally hide from my dog so I don’t get interrupted. Living in Montana, with its long winters and drifting snow, means I look out the windows and let that world drift into the pages. It’s where I live. It’s where I write.

Thank you for being here and for letting me share this part of my world with you.
💛 With gratitude,
Devae Hickman
